MOAA Talks TRICARE Fees with Hill Staffers

Recently, MOAA briefed almost 50 House staffers about DoD proposals to raise health fees for retirees under age 65 including raising co pays for prescriptions that would make TRICARE’s drug plan worse than half of all civilian plans.

To help MOAA fight these disproportionate fee hikes, please take the time to send the tear-out post cards to your legislators included with the March edition of your Military Officer magazine, which will be in your mailbox soon if you haven’t received it already.  Feel free to add a little handwritten note at the bottom to give your letter an extra punch.

(FOR EXAMPLE:  We and many of those now serving were promised free medical care for ourselves and our family members if we served appropriately for 20 or more years.  We know the cost of Medicare is getting more expensive but, the Congress and Senate should not want to lessen the cost by reducing those contractual agreements.)

Guard-Reserve Caucus Breakfast

MOAA was a proud sponsor this week of a House National Guard and Reserve Caucus event hosted by co-chairs Reps.  Gene Taylor (D-MS) and Steve Buyer (R-IN).

Again, The National MOAA Leadership is delivering our messages to those who can help.

Executive Committee Meeting

The Executive Committee meeting is 21 March. 2008 at Cole Park Commons at Ft. Campbell, KY.

We are scheduled to meet on the first Friday following each meeting at 12:00 noon.  All association members are invited to attend.

Members of our local association should be members of the National Chapter.  MOAA has tremendous lobbying muscle. See Legislative Affairs Notes.

If we can be of assistance or if anyone is sick or under the weather call Mary or Chaplain Charles Currie (Personal Affairs).  Their phone number is 931-645-2149.  Charles will put you on his prayer list and visit you in the hospital if you are sick.

Newsletter Editor’s Comments:

I know you’re all aware of the upcoming election.  You can’t turn on the TV and avoid hearing each newscasters slant on the possibility of those running being the party’s nomination.

I’ve been thinking about this and I have decided that it is my responsibility to vote for the president that will do what’s in our country’s best interest without the consideration of how those actions will impact me and my family.  I am sure that you will see this as I do.  We must encourage our family members no matter where they reside to do the same.  Each year prior to election I and my children and Juanita talk about the party’s and our perception of their goals.  We encourage them to keep abreast of what’s going on.  But invariably often just before the election several members of our family call and say “who should we vote for” and we tell them who we’re voting for and I’m sure for the most part they do likewise.
